Registering a Salesforce Org with Vault

When you register your Salesforce Organization, Vault gets connected to your Salesforce org with required permissions that enables you to back up your data and metadata information.
  • Login to Vault with your user credentials.
  • Visit Setup > Register New Org from Vault homepage.
  • Next, choose an Authentication Type:
  • OAuth Authentication: In OAuth authentication, you need to enter the desired name for the Org in the Org Title field and the Salesforce username. On clicking ‘Authenticate’, the page will redirect to the Salesforce login screen, where you can enter your authentication details. Upon successful authentication, you will be redirected back to the Vault page.
  • Standard Authentication: In Standard authentication, the desired Salesforce Cloud environment, Username, Password, and Security token of the Salesforce are given, and Vault authenticates the connection. To test that Vault can connect to the target Salesforce organization when using the credentials of the target Salesforce user, click on "Test Connection".
Click "Save" to complete the authentication process.
  • Upon successful authentication, you need to create a new configuration for your Salesforce Org. To do so, click on Add New Config.
  • On the next screen, all the metadata objects that are registered available within the selected Salesforce org will be displayed.
  • Select the Metadata to carry out the backup operation. You can either select or de-select metadata types that needs to be backed up.
  • Click "Next" to proceed to the next screen. From the list of Data fetched, select the required data you wish to perform backup operation.
  • Click on the object to view its related members on the next screen available fields in a pop-up. Also here, you can perform various operations to the members fields such as to exclude them from getting backed up.
For ex- If you like to exclude members for the "Account" data, simply click on Account object.
On the next screen, select the Account object metadata members to be included for the backup.
  • Clicking on "Save" button will direct you to previous page. Here, one can view the changes that has been recently modified. Additionally, to filter the label name for each metadata object, do so using the Filter () icon. Based on the rule assigned, the results gets filtered.
  • Click Next.
  • Once you are done with the selection of metadata types, objects (and its fields), set up when you would like to carry out the Org Backup operation. This is explained later in the next topic i.e., Schedule Backup Process.
